Using a PC Monitor As a TV

Using a PC Monitor As a TV

Many people are seeing more and more reasons to use an LCD computer monitor as a TV these days. There are several good reasons to do so. First, a flat screen monitor takes up much less space than a huge CRT TV. An LCD flat screen uses the same technology as an LCD TV. The advantage is that LCD flat screens meant for computers are produced in higher numbers than TVs and are seen and priced more as a commodity. You can shop around and find dramatically cheaper deals on a PC monitor than a similarly sized TV. There will be a few differences. A PC monitor will not have a TV tuner built in and you would need to provide this separately. It will also have different connectors that are meant for a computer set up instead of a TV setup. This may mean a DVI, VGA of HDMI connecter instead of S-Video or Component video. In most cases, an inexpensive adapter can make it easy to connect a PC monitor into your home setup.

Another good reason to use a PC monitor as a TV is if you use a computer-based media center.

This way, you will be able to read the small text on the computer instead of seeing blurry characters on a TV. You may be able to browse the web or send emails from your TV that would be very difficult with a CRT TV where text rendering is less precise and clear. As always, be sure to try before you buy!
